Perhaps I was not clear... so, on my comment I was describing the manual process of moving things over. The SL Work Marketplace website will make that process automatic, in the sense that LL will get the snapshot of a sim, save it to the SL Work Marketplace, and allow it to be browsed and searched for by prospective clients, who can then pay through the website, and download a snapshot to restore on a sim inside their SLE box. Yes, pretty much like the iPhone App Store, with the difference that the original snapshot will have to be created by LL and posted on the site.

I don't think you need to have "one region per product in SL". You just deploy your content on a region of your choice and tell LL to snapshot it; once that is done, you can clean the content there and deploy another product, and so on. My question right now is just how you handle upgrades!

Oh, does that also mean that in order to sell stuff in the market place, you also need to maintain one region per 'product set' in SL? Or could you have a region that can be scripted to reconfigure itself.. but no because then you wouldn't know exactly when it was snapshotted by the Lab. OK, now I'm more confused - told you, questions breed questions!

So the analogy with iTunes that came up at some point was totally misleading? That gave people to understand that there would be a site you could browse, see something you liked, pay and receive it.

Ah, there will be no "packaging". What happens is the following: after validating all content inside a region (sim), LL will simply get the sim's snapshot from their server (they keep one snapshot per hour for the past 15 days), send it to the SLE box client, and tell them to do a region restore using that snapshot. So basically you'll get everything that was on the original region, exactly like it looks, with all scripts running at the point they were snapshotted :)

I'm sure there will be some need to adapt things on the SLE box afterwards. A typical example might be scripts relying on specific UUIDs to exist, for instance, e.g. sending IMs to a specific avatar and/or requesting permissions from that avatar to do something (like permission to debit).

Oh, and yes, I believe it's your office indeed, to the left of the picture :)

Thanks for that Gwyn, I'm sure people have been desperate for more details of both SLE and the Marketplace. And as with all detail, the result is some clarity and a heap more questions :-) I'm particularly interested to try to understand the packaging and deployment process for MarketPlace content. I can imagine that a lot of the tools and solutions that might be provided will involve integration with other systems in the organisation, so either a very sophisticated API would be required, or (more likely) a fair bit of integration and config work post-deployment. I can't see anything more than pure 3D content being able to be simply downloaded and used.
Oh and isn't that my office on page 4?
