Remote learning is the new trend for low-budget education on corporations and universities when students cannot afford to travel to the destination or have conflicting/overlapping schedules preventing them to attend training sessions. Cumbersome and limited 2D Web-based interfaces create a barrier for efficient communication and real-time interaction between teachers and students. Even two-way video conferencing can be too hard to set up for classes with 20-30 students. Virtual worlds are low-bandwidth, highly interactive environments where either the classroom is replicated in 3D, or, better than a replica, completely new educational environments can be designed just for the purpose of understanding the subject. Instead of a picture of a heart in an anatomy class, why don’t you allow your students to walk inside the heart itself and interact with it to understand how it works?
